Iowa License & Registration

The Nonresident Application Process - FAQ has information on Iowa's lottery draw rules. All hunters must apply for deer tag by the first Saturday in May through the first Sunday in June. To hunt in Iowa, nonresidents need to purchase a hunting license ($131.00) and a nonresident habitat fee ($15.00). To hunt deer you will also need your tags, sold as an any-sex tag and antlerless tag combination ($498.00). The total for a deer hunting application will be $644.00 plus applicable fees.

It's A Win Both Ways

Iowa Whitetail Outfitters do not charge Trophy fees. We feel that the bigger the buck the better. We take pride in managing the deer herd, and in allowing the deer to grow to full maturity. This then provides you with a trophy animal and provides us with a successful, happy hunter. We do however implement a penalty/management fee for harvesting an immature deer. We find it necessary to do so in order for our clients to take our management policy seriously. Please refer to Management Fees document for details.

Rules & Guidelines

Entry & Exit Routes

You will be shown your farm and stand upon arrival. We then ask that when you go to hunt you go directly from your vehicle to your stand. This causes less human scent and disturbance in the woods, which in turn gives you a better shot opportunity and also leaves the farm undisturbed for the hunter that may follow you.

No Scouting

It is never allowed to "beagle" or "scout", as some refer to it. Each farm has been thoroughly scouted and deer stands set where we feel you will have your best shot opportunity. If you feel that you may have an idea for a stand placement, discuss it with your guide. Walking through the woods will only make your chance for a kill, and the person hunting after you, very slim.

Shoot, Then Call

When you have made a shot, you must call!! Do not get down and track the deer on your own. Call your guide immediately. Review the shot with him. Did you see or hear the buck go down? Your guide will come to you. You can then get out of your stand at that time to track and retrieve your deer with your guide.

Minimum Size

We enforce a 140" minimum on all farms and a 150" minimum on select farms. This ensures that you and other hunter's have the peace of mind that we are managing the deer herd and that you will continue to see and harvest mature bucks with us. We want these young bucks to reach their maximum potential.

Location Selection

The farm selection for every hunter is based off of the date the deposits are received, NOT by lottery drawing. Each location is managed for optimal shot opportunity with minerals and food plots, which better the deer herd, enhance your hunting experience.

Don't Be Scented

We request that you use an effective scent blocker or controller before and during your hunt. We recommend using Scentlok, Ozonics, Scentaway, and Mrs. Doepee to control scent and further increase your shot opportunity.
